Ben Hedger goes to Lord Williams ‘s Upper School and plays and trains at Racquets Fitness Centre in Thame and plays for the men’s 1st team in the Oxfordshire leagues.

The Abingdon junior open was a fairly local Oxfordshire event which Ben won without dropping any games but the Southampton tournament was with players from further afield.

One of Ben’s coaches said ‘we are so proud of Ben’s determination in the tournaments as in the semis and the final he came back from being behind to win both matches. ‘

The semifinal was against the number 1 seed, Adam Sindall-White ranked 63 in England and had travelled all the way from Somerset.  The final was against the number 2 seed from Sussex, Julian Standish ranked 113 in Under 19 in England.

Ben is hoping his determination will be strong enough this coming weekend to create some upsets at the British Junior Open being held in Manchester as there will be players from all over the world.

Nick Harbour also played in the Abingdon tournament coming 3rd which is very respectable having recently moved up to the Under 17s.  Nick is also entering the U17 category in the British Junior Open this weekend and will have to play his very best to challenge the number 1 seed in the second round.

Well done to both of them and good luck this weekend.
